Airless
Generally refers to spray operated equipment where the material is supplied by high pressure. Can also apply to pressure fed rollers.
Airless Spray
Paint supplied to a spray unit by way of a hydraulic pressure unit in place of a conventional compressed air unit.

Algae
Which is green in colour is usually develops on exterior surfaces but can also occur on interior surfaces where the atmosphere is high in moisture content. Algae can also been seen on ships hull (bottoms).
Alkali
Series of compounds highly soluble in water producing caustic or corrosive solutions that neutralize strong acids.
Alkali resistant primers
For use onto new plaster and other cementitious surfaces prior to the application of oil based paints.
Alkali-resisting Paints
Generally water-based paint such as P.V.A., masonry paints, cement-based paint, bituminous paints and epoxy resin paints which are resistant to alkali attack.
Alkyd Resin
Synthetic resin used in paints and varnishes and referred to as the binder medium or vehicle within oil based products.
Alligatoring
A defect in a paint film showing a pattern like an alligator’s skin (also known as crocodiling).
