Body

General term to indicate viscosity (thickness) of paints sometimes referred to as heavy-bodied, under-bodied or false-bodied.


Boiled Oil

Modified oil known as linseed oil which is the basis of an oil paint.


Bond

A bricklaying term relating to a mixture of sand:cement:water mix for bonding bricks.


Bonding

Adhesion of one coat onto another or onto a surface.


Booking

A term sometimes used when wallpaper is pasted the two ends are folded into each other to allow for soaking. 

Care should be taken not to crease the folds.


Bottom Rail

Refers to the bottom horizontal section of a panelled door or window.


Box guttering

Guttering made out of pressed steel or wood and lined with zinc sheeting, bitumen.


Boxing

Mixing of two or more materials of the same type by pouring from one container into another and then back again. Also when different batches of paint are supplied and large surfaces are being coated  in the same colour.  This also applies when tinted paints are obtained via an in- house colouring system.


Breeze Block/ Concrete Clinker

Used for internal walls made from a mix of cement and coal ash.


Bridging

When paint is applied over fine cracks and holes which have not been filled before painting.
