Snagging

Snagging within the building /construction industry is a slang word relating to a snag document/form is issued to contactors and sub contractors  towards the end of a project or phased work to outline and describe minor defects or omissions arising during the course of the work carried out. This inspection to identify defects within the finishing work construction prior to the final handover to the client is normally conducted a few weeks before the final handover to the client..

 

 


Soffit Board

Soffit Board

A horizontal board fixed to the underside of the rafters between the wall surface and facia board.

Also, the underside of an arch, beam, cornice and stairs.

Solar Reflecting

Paints used to reduce the absorption of heat into otherwise dark surfaces. Can be white or aluminium.


Solids Volume

Percentage of the total volume of non-volatiles within a liquid


Solution

A liquid in which substance has been dissolved.


Solvent

A liquid which can be used to dissolve another substance, (see Thinner).


Solvent Less/Solvent Free

Products which contain no dilutants, (see also High Solids).


Solvent Release

The evaporation of solvent from a substance.


Solvent Wash

Preparation, cleaning of a surface with solvent, (see Degreasing).


Spalling

Spalling is where the top surface becomes detached from the main body of the substrate.
