Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE)

Personnel Protective Equipment

Should be worn whenever work is being carried to protect the user from injury.

PPE is mandatory on all building and construction sites and responsibility is both contractors and operatives to ensure it is available and worn.

Petrifying Liquid

 

Petrifying Liquid can be used as a thinner for oil bound distemper in place of water particularly if the surface is very absorbent.

When added to te distemper it also helps to improve the weathering properties.

 

 

 


Phenolic Resin

Phenol Formaldehyde Resin
Synthetic resin used as a binder for paints and adhesives.


Phosphating

The treatment of steel or other metal surfaces with solutions containing metal phosphates and phosphoric acid to form a coating which inhibits corrosion and improves the adhesion of subsequent coats of paints


Picking Out

Highlighting details of mouldings in cornices and other architectural features.


Picking Up

The joining up a wet ( live) edge when painting large areas to obtain an even finish. Also Working Up.


Pickling

Dipping process for cleaning steel to remove rust and mill scale. The process of removing old paint and varnish coatings with alkaline solutions or strong solvents.


Pigment

A colouring agent, insoluble, dispersed particles in a paint to provide colour and opacity. Some types available will inhibit rusting, chemical attack and high temperatures.


Pigment Volume Concentration (P.V.C.)

Concentration by volume of pigment in a liquid paint or dry film normally expressed as a percentage of the non volatile content.


Pigment/Binder Ratio

The ratio of pigment to the binder, medium, vehicle in paint.
