Curing

The time mixed materials such as concrete and two pack paints i.e. epoxy and polyurethane coatings take to dry by chemical action.


Curing Agent:

Hardener, as used in 2-pack epoxy and polyurethane products. Often incorrectly call accelerator.


Curtains

Sagging of a wet paint coating.


Cutting in

A term used when applying paint to a surface without encroaching onto an adjacent surface. Also when painting windows without overpainting more than a fraction onto the glass.


Dado

Dado a horizontal boarder along the lower half of a wall above the skirting.
Also referred to as Chair rail to prevent high back chairs from defacing the wall decoration.

 


De-Natured Wood

Unprotected wood Which has been exposed to the elements i,.e. UV rays becoming very dry breaking down the natural cells.


De-Nib

The removal of small fine, dusty particles by abrading with fine-grade abrasive paper.


De-scaling:

Removal of mill scale and rust from steel work.


Degradation

Changes that occur to a paint coating on exposure to weather or chemical attack.


Degreasing:

 
Removal of oil and grease from the surface with a chemical solution or solvent prior to painting.
