Spalling

Spalling is where the top surface becomes detached from the main body of the substrate.

Spirit

Generally refers to methylated or white spirit.


Spirit Stain

A dye generally dissolved in methylated spirit used to darken timber.


Sponging Off

Sponging Off                                                                                                                                                                     

A decorative effect achieved by applying a contrasting colour of wet glaze onto a base colour

then by dabbing the surface with a sponge to removing the coloured glaze.
