Sintering

Sintering is the process of compacting and forming a solid mass of material by heat or pressure without melting it to the point of liquefaction.
Sintering happens naturally in mineral deposits or as a manufacturing process used with metals and other materials.

Size

 

A solution based on water, animal glue, cellulose derivative or starch. Used primarily to seal porous surfaces prior to paper hanging.


Sizing

 

A thin coat of paste or glue size applied onto porous surfaces before hanging wallpaper and other wall coverings.

 


Skinning

Formation of a solid dry film on top of a liquid.

Sleepiness

A loss of gloss as a paint film dries.


Slow Drying

Coating which requires 24 hours or longer before re-coating. Can also be due to application of paint on to contaminated surfaces or in adverse weather conditions.


Smudge

A mixture of all types of similar paints used for the painting of the inside of guttering.
