A two or more  colour finish achieved by rolling over a wet coat of tinted glaze of a contrasting

colours with a chamois leather, clean rag or lining paper.

Raised Grain

The lifting of wood fibres from the main wood structure. Generally occurs when water based products are applied to timber surfaces.


Raking Out

Cutting out cracks or raking out deeper defects in plaster or rendering prior to repairing a surface.
 


RAL Colour Range

A colour range developed by the German RAL Institute.  The range of colours are used as an international standards used  not only for paint but many building components.


Re-coat Time

The time interval between each coat of paint.

The degree to which paint spray deposits bounce back.

Render

 

Rendering on the exterior walls of building is generally used as an alternative to brick or concrete blocks.

Note. While dry render is paintable care should be taken as to the quality and nature of the work.

If in doubt regarding the condition and product suitability of a coatings to applied advice from the manufacture should be obtained.

Note: Exterior Render is  made from 6 parts Sharp Sand 1part Portland Cement and one part Lime 6:1:1.

Lime is added as a plasticiser which  makes it easier to work with. The addition of lime can weaken the overall strength of the render making it more porous.

In place of lime, suppliers now offer liquid plasticisers.
