Kicking Plate

 

A metal plate fix to the bottom of a door for protection against damage.


Knifing Filler

A smooth paste used for filling slight surface imperfections and indentations.


Knot Brush

Brush, round or oval in shape, in either one or two knots used for applying distempers and limewash or for washing down.


Knotting

A composition normally based on shellac and methylated spirit applied over wood knots and sap residues to prevent staining of subsequent coats.


Knotting

A shellac based on Methylated Spirit for use over resinous to prevent tannic bleeding from  knots and sap residue within hardwoods.


Lacquers

Usually refers to coatings which dry by the evaporation of solvents.


Lap

The area where the paint being applied extends over the previously applied material. The joints should flow into each other without showing.


Lap/Lapping time

The time in which the wet edge of the coating remains open. (see Wet edge time).


Latex

Sap of the rubber tree. Also applies to synthetic resins used in some types of emulsion coatings.


Latex Paints

Paints based on synthetic resins.
