The 'Institute of Corrosion' membership, is recognised as being the lead training body for those interested in  becoming a Paint Inspector being one who monitors the application of Paint/Coating systems in the prevention of metal corrosion.

 

 


Intercoat Adhesion

The ability of one coating to adhere to another.


Intermediate Coat

Undercoat, Middle coat or Guide coat.


Internal mix nozzle

Spray gun nozzle which combines air and fluid before leaving gun.                                 


Intumescent

Flame or fire resistant coatings which increase in volume on heating.

Used in polyurethane coatings.


Japan

A black varnish coating.


Japanning

A gloss coating occasionally called bituminous varnish or stoving black


Ketones

Organic solvents the  most common ones being acetone-dimethyl ketone – MEK methyl ethyl ketone – MBK methyl isobutyl ketone.
