Emery Paper

An Abrasive paper based on an aluminum oxide surface and bonded onto a fabric backing.

Ideal for use on metalwork to remove corrosion and to polish a metal surface.


Emulsion

A term used in the paint industry relating to a solid organic binder for paints such as polyvinyl acetate (P.V.A.). Dispersed not dissolved in a carrier such as water.


Emulsion Paint

Paint coatings produced by dispersing pigment into an emulsion binder (see P.V.A.)


Enamel

Normally referred to as a high gloss coating. The term can also apply to a finish obtained by melting siliceous materials (Vitreous enamel).


Epoxy Amine

Amine cured epoxy resin product.


Epoxy Ester

Modified epoxy single-pack paint.


Epoxy Paint

A two pack coating which is highly resistant to wear and chemical attack.


Epoxy Resin

Used as the basis for chemical resistant two-pack products.


Equilibrium

Referred to when the moisture content in timber is neither gained nor lost when the humidity and temperature is constant.


Erosion

Wearing/washing of a top coating of paint, (see Chalking).
